Motor insurer Auto Direct has installed an interactive and comparative internet quote system developed by Cheshire Datasystems (CDL).

This solution enables quotations to be obtained and recalled, and also collects payment details before automatically updating the CDL back office system with the policy details.

This development follows CDL's announcement that it is to provide free web sites for all its customers.

The software provider is currently creating these web sites for its user base.

CDL internet project manager Nigel Phillips said: "The system we have created is the culmination of much development by our e-commerce team."

CDL's current interactive internet offering covers new business transactions for private car, motorcycle, household, travel and commercial lines.

Phillips added: "We have a number of projects due for release over the coming weeks which will offer integrated e-commerce solutions. These include additional facilities - policy enquiry, payments, adjustments and renewals for the internet shopper."

CDL has a user base of 120 broker and intermediary firms, but because these tend to be large companies, around 6,000 individuals use the system.

The web site can be found at www.autodirect.co.uk.
