A new vehicle inspection service is expected to save insurers millions in the fight against fraud.

Vehicle glass repair and replacement company Belron has set up Motorcheck to serve the needs of motor insurance underwriters and claims managers.

Inspection results are recorded on a hand-held computer, signed by the policyholder and made immediately available to the insurer.

Belron said Motorcheck will help insurers to reject unacceptable risks, detecting fronting, avoiding fraudulent claims for vehicles – damaged, written off or otherwise disposed of – as well as other premium and claims adjustments.

Underwriting teams will be able to use the information for policy endorsement, premium adjustment or cancellation of policies.

Claims can also use the data for checking inspection results as and when claims are received.

Belron said the process could yield returns as high as £5 for every pound spent on fraud prevention.
