CMGL has appointed Urs Zimmermann as chief executive of its Asia Pacific operations.

Zimmermann, who is based in CMGL's Asia Pacific headquarters in Sydney, took up his post on 1 May 2006.

Zimmermann has over 30 years of experience in the global insurance industry and joins CMGL from Thailand-based insurer ThaiSri, formerly part of the Zurich group, where he was an executive vice president.

He has held various senior positions at Zurich Insurance in Asia, Australia, Europe and Africa.

Zimmermann has also worked for a number of other major insurers and insurance management companies including Allianz Insurance Management Asia, where he was assistant general manager.

Prior to this, he was principal and chief executive (South East Asia) of Winterthur Swiss Insurance.

Jerry McArthur, managing director of CMGL, said: “An Asia Pacific chief executive of Urs's calibre both on a management and an operational level will be a huge asset for CMGL as we continue to concentrate on expanding our service offering worldwide.

"His experience is truly global and his track record of growing companies, working with international regulators and attracting blue-chip clients is ideally suited to this challenging role.”
