The horrific injury suffered by a Wolverhampton Wanderers fan last weekend has brought the issue of public liability to the forefront of people's minds.

The 38-year-old was injured when a stray firework from a display in the stadium hit her in the face.

John Greenway, MP for Ryedale, said that the industry must not ignore the issue of public liability and focus only on employers' liability (EL) insurance.

Speaking at the annual IIB reception at the House of Commons, the chairman of the Insurance and Financial Services All Party Parliamentary Group said:

"The insurance industry is whistling in the dark if it thinks that the DWP review will recommend a change in the scope of EL. The industry needs to address the issue of costs. And if it truly wants to do this, it needs to look at public liability as well as employers' liability."

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
