Highway Insurance has posted a pre-tax profit of £27.3m for 2005. This represents an increase of £6.1m on the previous year's results.

The company's net insurance premium increased from £225.6m to £242.9m. Shareholders will receive a final dividend of 3.7p, compared with 1.85p in 2004, for a total dividend of 5.3p, up from 2.65p.

Highway's executive chairman, Ross Dunlop, said: "Our aim in 2006 is to hold our position, to develop further distribution skills in our broking business, and a closer alignment with our underwriting operation."

Ian Patrick, Highway's finance director, has resigned, with effect from the end of March.
