The insurance sector has been voted the least admired sector in the 2002 Management Today's Britain's Most Admired
Companies Awards.

The sector was voted overall last in this year's awards, achieving the lowest score.

Matthew Gwyther, editor of Management Today said: "The low score of the insurance sector reflects the lack of confidence in an industry dogged by mis-selling scandals and shrinking pensions."

In addition, Royal & SunAlliance was voted the third least admired company overall.

Last year's insurance number one, CGNU, droped 126 places on the overall ranking from 23 to 149.

On the upside for the sector, Legal & General was voted this year's "Most Admired Company" in the insurance sector. The insurer also achieved the accolade of being ranked first by its peers in all nine special categories.

Barclays was voted the second most admired company in the UK.

The bank moved from sixth position in the banking sector to number two and made it into the top 20 of the UK's most admired companies overall.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
