The Underwriter Café opened its portals to insurers this week, claiming it can help them get new products to market faster than ever.

The system is developed 70-80% in advance while the final part is created bespoke for each insurer.

The Underwriter Café uses Sun Microsystems Enterprise JavaBean technology to create building blocks that can be used in part or as a whole.

Components of the package include underwriting, reinsurance, claims handling, accounting, management reports, cash handling and renewals.

Firms who wish to create ecommerce-based systems can use WebX application service provider. WebX hosts systems on behalf of insurers, providing infrastructure and expertise.
