‘We felt there was a need for something that covers pothole damage, without having to bring your main motor policy into it,’ says founder and managing director
ALA Insurance has launched a specialist pothole insurance policy providing up to £2,000 a year for damage caused by potholes.

The Yorkshire-based guaranteed asset protection (Gap) insurance provider said the product was designed to cover motorists for damage to tyres, alloy wheels, wheel alignment and balancing, suspension, bodywork and paintwork, as well as headlights.
Cover is available across the UK, Channel Islands and Isle of Man, with annual premiums capped at £37.40.
The launch comes as potholes remain a persistent problem for UK motorists. The AA recorded 613,638 pothole-related callouts in 2025, according to ALA.
Simon England, founder and managing director at ALA, said: “As repair costs have gone up, we felt there was a need for something that covers pothole damage, without having to bring your main motor policy into it.”
Separate protection
ALA said the product gives motorists an alternative to claiming for pothole damage on their main motor insurance, which could involve an excess and potentially affect future premiums or no claims discounts.

England said: “It’s a common problem and putting a relatively small repair through your main insurance can mean paying the excess and potentially affecting how you’re priced at renewal.”
ALA said the product forms part of its wider strategy of developing specialist insurance products around risks faced by motorists.
