’Adding van insurance is another major step forward,’ says chief executive

The Green Insurer has added environmentally friendly van insurance to its portfolio as demand grows for cover that focuses on offsetting carbon emissions.

The new policies will cover all classes of van insurance, including social and commuting, business use and haulage.

Customers will also get a green driving score through The Green Insurer’s application, which monitors how consumers drive and how far they drive.

This will be used to calculate a driver’s renewal premium and to offer discounts when they renew.

Paul Baxter, chief executive of The Green Insurer, said: “Adding van insurance to our range of policies is another major step forward as we continue to see strong demand from drivers who want to buy genuinely green insurance and to offset all carbon emissions.”

Costs

This came after the Consumer Intelligence Car Insurance Price Index revealed that van drivers were experiencing huge increases in premiums.

It showed that in the 12 months to December 2023, quoted premiums rose 35.9%, with drivers most commonly receiving quotes between £500 and £749 and £750 and £999.

As part of the new policy, The Green Insurer will look to further cut costs by negotiating deals with insurers.

Cover can be purchased directly from the broker or through price comparison websites.

“Our van insurance will help to reduce the cost of driving and insurance for van drivers, while rewarding them for driving in an environmentally responsible way and we are confident of strong demand,” Baxter said.

“The response from the industry has been extremely positive as has the response from customers and we look forward to working with more insurers and to further expanding our range of policies in the future.”
