McManus, who has served as the top boss for the last 11 years, said he was making the move as it ”feels like the right moment” to bring in fresh leadership.

Then, it was revealed that Zurich’s £8.1bn acquisition of Beazley is set to complete on 1 October 2026.

In a joint statement in February 2026, Zurich and Beazley confirmed that they had reached an agreement in principle on the key financial terms of a deal.

Readers were also interested in Zurich appointing Anita Gabat as head of commercial insurance in the UK, promoting the current head of property to oversee the insurer’s wider commercial portfolio.

Also popular was Jensten Group agreeing to acquire Venture Risks Group (VRG), a specialist technology-focused corporate broker, as it looks to expand its presence in the technology and life sciences sectors.

Finally, Swiss Re confirmed that it has “almost zero” appetite for underwriting new liability business, particularly in the US, because of escalating legal system abuse – with lawsuits targeting “the deepest pocket” of corporates, “which are the insurance policies”.
