The appointee will be ’pivotal’ in ’developing new efficiencies within our global team’ and ’deepening broker relationships’, says director
Markel has appointed Clarice Francis as operations manager for war and terrorism.
In her new role, Francis will focus on enhancing operational efficiency within the international war and terrorism team.
She will also work alongside the insurer’s management, claims, actuarial and product development departments to provide analysis and auditing of services.
Francis will be London-based and report to director of terrorism at Markel International Ed Winter.
Commenting on the new appointment, Winter said: ”We’re continuing to see the political violence (PV) market face heightened demand amid rising global instability and increased scrutiny in the PV space.
“With Francis on board, she’ll bring an exciting new dynamic to the team, enhancing our offering for clients and brokers.”
A ‘pivotal’ hire
With six years experience in the Lloyd’s market, Francis joins from Hiscox, where she specialised in operations management and project delivery.

During her time at the insurance carrier, Francis was promoted twice in short succession, from operations technician to senior operations technician in April 2021 and then to operations team manager in October 2021, which she held for four years.
Winter added: “Francis will be pivotal in not only strengthening the team’s ability to manage complex risks more effectively, but also in developing new efficiencies within our global team and deepening broker relationships to bring innovative ideas and projects to fruition.
“This will ensure we can continue delivering more tailored solutions for our clients as [an] insurer in the PV market, especially through times of geopolitical instability.”
