‘Drones are no longer a niche technology – they’re transforming industries across the globe,’ says new hire
Specialist drone insurance provider Coverdrone has appointed experienced market leader Richard Webb to its senior leadership team as part of its plans to accelerate global growth.

Webb joins the Crewe-based insurer with nearly 40 years of experience across underwriting, claims and business development. He has previously held senior roles at Hiscox, HCC International, Manchester Underwriting Management and Pen Underwriting.
He announced his retirement from his role as managing director of UK financial lines and specialty liability at Pen Underwriting in February 2025.
Coverdrone said Webb’s appointment formed a key part of its strategy to strengthen international operations and enhance service standards as demand for drone insurance rises.
“Drones are no longer a niche technology. They’re transforming industries across the globe, from surveying and engineering to logistics and emergency response,” Webb added.
“Coverdrone is perfectly positioned to meet that growth. The product is already exceptionally strong, but what stands out is how the team listens to customers and adapts quickly. That responsiveness is what keeps Coverdrone ahead.”
A trusted pilot
Andrew Heath, director at Coverdrone, said Webb’s experience would bring “a wealth of insight” to the firm’s expanding international business.

Heath added: “With nearly four decades in specialist insurance, he understands the importance of combining technical expertise with a genuine service ethos – values that are fundamental to Coverdrone. His knowledge and leadership experience will help support the next phase of our ambitious growth.”
Coverdrone, which provides insurance to drone pilots and operators in the UK, EU, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, continues to invest in product development in the midst of the sector’s rapid growth.
The firm plans to launch new chemical and cargo liability extensions in the coming months to reflect the evolving use of drones worldwide.
The business said its expansion reflected “the growing maturity of the global drone sector”, with increasing demand from both commercial and recreational operators.
