The Co-operative Insurance Society (CIS) has added three benefits to its successful motor product, including an optional breakdown package that will operate across Europe.

The other features are automatic Europe-wide cover at no additional cost and a free accident recovery service.

The original package offered a 25% discount for new motor customers who are not entitled to a no-claims discount, a loyalty discount on renewal and a fast-track claims process.

There is also a Pass Plus discount for customers who have just passed their driving test that enables them to take an additional course of six specially-designed lessons. The Pass Plus certificate gives the driver the equivalent of one year's no-claims discount.

As part of the new policy, customers who have third-party, fire and theft or comprehensive cover will get a brand new replacement car if, within a year of registering a new car in their name, it is stolen and not recovered.

CIS motor insurance manager Derek Wood said the enhancements were available to anyone who took out or renewed a CIS car policy.

"As more and more people are using their vehicles to travel to the continent, the introduction of automatic Europe-wide cover to our productshould make life easier for travellers," Wood said.

"The scale of our new business growth, coupled with our excellent retention rate of more than 93%, is proof positive that we provide what the customer wants."
