Eliot Spitzer, the man who has caused several headaches for the US insurance industry, has announced plans to run for governor of New York in 2006.
The New York attorney general is probably the most famous lawyer in the US because of his tendency to investigate and expose corrupt practices inside US businesses.
His latest campaign against the contingent commission practice at Marsh and McLennan has spawned several other investigations both by US regulators and globally.
It was widely expected that Spitzer had political ambitions beyond attorney general. Yesterday he confirmed his desire to become governor.
“The state is in a point of crisis,” he said. “The state is in dire need of leadership that will address budget issues, tax issues. We are bleeding jobs. We need to reform in the process of government.”
