The clean-up begins as flood warning subside

Insurers will begin cleaning up after the weekend’s flash flooding in the south west where 86-year-old Henry Collier was killed in his car near South Petherton, Somerset.

Torrential rain put much of the country on flood alert over the weekend and the south west was worst hit with floods across Devon, Wiltshire and into Sussex. Cheshire and Wales were also affected.

This morning the Environment Agency had no severe flood warnings in place and just 19 warnings and 95 flood watches. It had given the all-clear to 129 previous warnings.

The Sunday Times again reported incidences of insurers refusing cover to previous flash-flood victims.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
