AXA is happy to take on any of the 200 brokers who had their agency agreements ended by RSA, says commercial managing director intermediary and direct Matthew Reed.

Reed said: “We will be delighted to take any of those brokers that feel they want to work with a large insurer.”

Reed said AXA’s Bolton-based National Trading Centre was currently working with 2,000 brokers and had the ability to take on more.

Chris Maguire, who joined AXA in October last year, is heading the trading centre.

Yesterday, AXA Commercial Lines revealed premium waivers for commercial combined, motor trade and package insurance policyholders.

On request, sums insured for buildings, contents and stock will be increased free of charge by up to 20% (up to a maximum of £250,000). Business interruption cover with a maximum indemnity period of 12 months will also be increased free of charge on request to 18 months (with a consequent 50% increase of sum insured, maximum £250,000).

AXA’s strategy has also been about empowering the regional underwriters to make more decisions and open up more regional offices.

In November, offices in Newcastle and Bristol were opened. The decision to open up regional offices is a break from the past, when AXA believed a centralised structure was the way forward.

Reed said the regional offices, initiatives such as the premium waiver and the National Trading Centre were all about servicing the broker better.

Reed said: “We are not going to give them mugs and mouse mats. We will give them something so that they can trade with customers much better.”
