Three former ABI chiefs have announced new career moves this week.

Tony Baker, the ABI's departing deputy director-general, is to set up his own consultancy from the end of the month.

The Tony Baker Consultancy will offer advice on media affairs, financial services regulation and the internet.

His former colleague, Mark Boleat, who was the director general of the ABI for six years until he retired in 1999, has been appointed as a non-executive member of the National Consumer Council.

"Given the current climate, it is quite significant that someone from financial services is appointed to a consumer body," said Boleat, who also runs his own consultancy.

And, Roger Taylor, chairman of the ABI from 1997 to 1998, has become a non-executive director of the Helphire Group. He is president of the British Insurance Law Association and chairman of Amlin.
