Inspired by US management jargon, Towergate communications director and part owner Paul Dyer pronounced that the company had "cholesterol-free management" at a lunch that brought together the group's bankers and journalists last week.

In explanation, however, he added that the phrase referred to the free flow of communication within the company, rather than to the health of its senior executives.

Dyer also referred to the business as the "family" and, though he stopped short of referring to executive chairman Peter Cullum as the godfather, Backchat worries for the health of its staff should they ever decide to leave.
