Glencairn
Glencairn has appointed Nick Young as a partner of Glencairn Risk Solutions.

Young joins from Agnew Higgins & Pickering, where he worked in property and energy classes with particular emphasis on US business.

In his new role he will focus on expanding the company's growing corporate client base in North America.

Towergate London Market
Roger Wylie has joined Towergate's London Market's motor fleet department as an account handler.

Wylie joins from Marsh, where for 13 years he worked on placement of motor fleet risks within Lloyd's and the composite insurance market.

Luke Mullett has also joined the company as an account handler for the motor fleet department.

Mullett joins from Tony McDonagh & Co where he was a claims handler.

Insurer

CFC Underwriting
CFC Underwriting has appointed David Shaw as business development manager for Ireland.

Shaw joins from Coyle Hamilton Willis, where he worked for seven years as a broker developing new professional indemnity and cyber-liability business.

HBOS
HBOS General Insurance has appointed Andrew Kealing and Paula Corson as new business development managers within its partnerships and affinities team.

Kealing joins from Royal & SunAlliance, where he was key account manager.

Corson was previously sales and marketing manager at Keycare.

CNA
CNA has promoted Alain Wijnants, who joined the firm from AIG in July 2004, to head of Continental operations - Europe, based in Paris.

Wijnants succeeds Julian Enoizi, who was recently promoted to chief executive of CNA in Europe.

In other staff moves, Roger Grainger has joined CNA's Birmingham office as cargo development underwriter.

Grainger joins from Marsh in Birmingham, where he worked for 25 years in a national capacity placing UK cargo risks.

Oak Underwriting
Tony Lumsden-Cook, Oak Underwriting's founder, is to retire from the company's board on the 31 December. This completes the transition period of Bob Trott's appointment as managing director at Oak.

Sue Taylor will take over day-to-day marketing and public relations for Oak.

Lumsden-Cook will continue in his role as chairman of Somerville Underwriting Holdings to concentrate on developing new products and strategic initiatives.

Chubb
Chubb has promoted Jack Reckitt to London manager of its speciality insurance division.

Reckitt, who has worked at Chubb since 2004, was previously UK & Ireland professional indemnity manager.

Hill Dickinson
Law firm Hill Dickinson has expanded its professional indemnity (PI) practice with the following appointments:

  • James Preece joins as a professional negligence partner in the firm's Manchester office. Preece was formerly head of the PI group at Addleshaw Goddard.
  • New solicitor Ashleigh Williamson has also joined the Manchester team from Barlow, Lyde and Gilbert.
  • Professional negligence specialist Tim Davies has joined the firm's London office from Bond Pearce, and Tara McGovern has recently qualified as a solicitor, having completed her training contract with Hill Dickinson.
  • Assurant Solutions
    Karen Bailey and Jeremy Andrews have joined Assurant Solutions' sales and marketing team as client relationship manager and business development manager respectively.

    Bailey joins from Cardif Pinnacle, where she spent four years as affinity marketing manager.

    Andrews was previously account development manager in the mortgage insurance division of Genworth.

    SEL-Imperial
    Richard Miles has joined SEL-Imperial as business development director (North).

    Miles, formerly technical service manager of ABS bodyshops and more recently Aquilo Motor Services, will form part of the new business development team being recruited by SEL.

    Aquilo
    Arthur Rackstraw has been appointed managing director of Aquilo Inspection & Reinstatement Services, and will develop a professional building evaluation and repair operation at the company.

    Previously managing director of building repair manager Sergon, Rackstraw left the company in January 2005 following its acquisition by Homeserve.

    Quantum Enquiries
    Stephen Hayes has been appointed as a consultant and non-executive chairman at Quantum Enquiries and Surveillance.

    Hayes was previously the managing director of surveillance firm Specialised Investigation Services, which he sold in the late 1990s.

    IRM
    Michael Walker has been elected chairman of the Institute of Risk Management for 2006.

    Walker is a director and head of risk management at Currie & Brown Consulting.

    The IRM has also elected two vice-chairmen, Paul Goulding, risk and insurance manager at News International, and Cary Depel, compliance and legal director at IFX Markets.

    Biba
    Biba has appointed Swinton chief executive, Patrick Smith, and John McLaren-Stewart, chief executive of Alliance Corporate Risk Management, to its board from January 2006.

    Smith will chair a new Biba focus group concentrating on market issues concerning personal lines business.McLaren-Stewart will represent the Biba Heart of England regional constituency, replacing Clive King of CR King & Partners.

    FitzGerald Consulting
    Alan Speyer and Alex Murray, both directors at FitzGerald Consulting, will manage the firm's new liability division.

    The company's service will now extend from consultancy in the casualty field to niche liability adjusting.

    Centurion
    Gary Noye has joined claims management company Centurion as business development manager, heading its new business development unit.

    Noye had been previously at Folgate for 13 years, latterly working as business development manager.

    Barlow Lyde & Gilbert
    Barlow Lyde & Gilbert has appointed Ian Mason as a partner in its financial services regulatory team.

    Mason was previously head of the FSA enforcement division's wholesale group.

    Belron
    Vehicle glass repair and replacement firm Belron has appointed Markus Schmidt as general manager for its new vehicle inspection service Motorcheck.

    Schmidt, who will manage the business in the UK and focus on the roll-out of the service across Europe, first joined Belron three years ago.

    Corporate Risk Systems
    Corporate Risk Systems has appointed Richard Ball as senior occupational health, safety and environmental consultant.

    Ball joins from Black Country Connexions.

    Michael Russell
    Specialist theatreworld broker Walton & Parkinson has appointed Michael Russell to work on the company's regional theatre account in a new director-level position.

    Russell has 30 years' experience of corporate broking and is well-known in the performing arts and theatre sector, having served on the boards of several theatres.

    He was also a founder director and chairman of the Tron Theatre in Glasgow and led its Lottery-funded development.

    Russell's professional roles have included senior appointments with Opus Corporate Risk and, more recently, Willis, where he was dedicated to the theatre sector.

    In his new role he will also play an important part in Walton & Parkinson's company's expansion programme.

    Russell said: "I am delighted to be joining Walton & Parkinson at this exciting phase in its development."

    In his spare time Russell enjoys food and wine, travel, and collecting Art Deco ceramics and furniture.
