In the article "Two insurers offer new liability" (3 October, Insurance Times) perhaps the photograph used to illustrate this article goes some way to illustrating why trades such as roofing contractors are being required to pay higher premiums.

We have two men working on a roof with little or no evidence that suitable safety precautions are in place. We are not able to say precisely whether there is any edge protection, but there does not appear to be any.

The workers are not wearing head protection and one seems to be wearing jeans or "sports clothing" rather than "workwear". But at least one of them is wearing gloves.

One can only speculate as to whether a risk assessment had been carried out and a method statement prepared.
