The number of new permanent job vacancies for insurance and financial services workers in the South East dropped by 12% in May.

This is according to figures published by the Alexander Lloyd Job Index, based on the latest May 2002 data. The index also indicates that the number of permanent jobs filled in this sector fell by 18% against the previous month, while the number of available candidates for permanent positions rose by 25%. The report suggests there is usually a fall in the number of new permanent jobs available as the summer progresses.

Operations director of Alexander Lloyd, Neil Quarendon said: "The market changes with the onset of summer and while the momentum of new vacancies being registered is maintained, it is important for candidates in the insurance and financial services sector to maintain an active interest."

Alexander Lloyd is a recruitment consultancy that specialises in insurance and accountancy personnel.
