Visitors at Lloyd's last week were surprised to see a number of leading market figures flanked by policemen.

Wellington director David Gittings, Hardy Underwriting chief executive Barbara Merry and Lloyd's head of change management Steve Haasz were not being led away for underhand dealing, but endorsing the Lloyd's community programme's police mentoring project.

The Metropolitan police were also given a lecture on risk management issues.

Tower Hamlets local commander Mark Simmons said: "The police, like Lloyd's, are dealing with risks all the time, both in our daily jobs and the way we run our organisations."
