David Powell has been appointed motor manager at the Lloyd's Market Association (LMA).
Powell joins LMA from the Association of British Insurers (ABI) and takes over the role from Roger Jones, following his retirement.
The role involves managing the motor team at LMA and co-ordinating the services provided to those Lloyd's syndicates which transact UK motor business.
Powell will also be responsible for provision of management and support services to the Motor Underwriters' Association (MUA), an organisation which represents a wider group of motor underwriters operating outside of the Lloyd's market.
The LMA said he will also represent all LMA and MUA motor members on various market committees, including those of the ABI, MIB (Motor Insurers' Bureau) and the Motor Insurance Repair Research Centre (widely known as ‘Thatcham').
Powell will concentrate on a number of high-level issues that the LMA is currently addressing on behalf of the motor market. This will include working with other industry groups to respond to the recommendations of the Greenaway Review of uninsured driving, working to improve the personal injury compensation system, tackling vehicle crime and developing the market's response to the EU Gender Equality Directive.
Simon Sperryn, chief executive at LMA, said: “David brings with him a wealth of academic and sector experience; the knowledge he gained whilst at the ABI will prove a real asset to our motor members and will help us forge an even stronger relationship with that association, as well as with other trade and government bodies.”
