The Motoring Uninsured Loss Recoveries Association (Mulra) is unhappy with the Financial Services Ombuds-man's (FSO) view on freedom of choice of solicitors.

Mulra is seeking a dialogue with the FSO to discuss cases where the Ombudsman said claimants should be allowed to use the first solicitor they consulted about uninsured loss recovery, rather than one from an insurer's panel.

Mulra said it feared solicitors that were not on the panels were encouraging claimants to go to the Ombudsman in order to keep a case.

Mulra chairman David Haynes said: “The best route must surely remain utilising pre-paid ULR cover, with the ULR provider's chosen experts, to recover uninsured losses and to claim for injuries suffered.”
