’With the number of potholes continuing to rise across the UK, it’s more important than ever for vehicle owners to protect themselves against the rising cost of repairs,’ says managing director

Alps, an MGA specialising in add-on policies for brokers, has launched a new pothole insurance cover product for brokers.

The firm said that the product was launched in response to the growing issue of pothole damage and road degradation across the UK, with the Royal Automobile Club (RAC) noting that there were an average of 225 pothole-related vehicle breakdowns per day across February 2026.

Pothole damage to vehicles can frequently result in costly damage to vehicle suspension systems, wheels and shock absorbers. Recent Tesco Insurance data revealed that the average pothole damage claim cost £4,441 for insurers to service.

Alps’ new product provides up to £2,000 of cover for pothole-related damage for vehicles, including private cars, motorcyles, commercial vehicles and motorhomes up to 3.5 tonnes.

The policy offers premium levels as low as £60 with excess costs of £50.

Cost of repairs

Michelle O’Reilly, managing director at Alps, said: ”We’re delighted to launch this product exclusively for brokers. With the number of potholes continuing to rise across the UK, it’s more important than ever for vehicle owners to protect themselves against the rising cost of repairs.

”While standard motor insurance policies often cover pothole damage, policyholders can face increased premiums at renewal, loss of their no-claim discount and high excess payments. Our add-on solution addresses these challenges by providing targeted, affordable cover that helps keep drivers on the road.”
