‘Williamson’s experience will add an invaluable dimension to what we offer and position us well for continued growth,’ says managing director

Professional services firm Aon has appointed Catherine Williamson to the newly created role of growth and technical director for its specialist UK insolvency and restructuring insurance and risk team.

The firm said that the Birmingham-based role will see Williamson focus on “delivering insights and solutions to clients managing business restructuring and disruption”, helping them to “better manage risk to create greater resilience and enable future growth”.

Williamson joins from Manchester-based AlixPartners, where she spent 11 years, most recently leading the firm’s insolvency team, including through the highly publicised insolvencies of Thomas Cook, Indigo Michael and Cineworld.

Williamson also spent 17 years holding various senior positions at independent financial advisory firm Zolfo Cooper, prior to its purchase and merger with AlixPartners.

Aon said the appointment comes amid a period of significant growth in the department, which has seen headcount increase by 25% over the past year.

Unique proposition

Mark Sanderson, managing director of UK insolvency and restructuring at Aon, said: “Our team is excited to work with such a well‑known insolvency practitioner. Williamson’s personality, energy and outstanding technical expertise will be a tremendous asset to our clients and our team.

“Aon’s proposition is already unique within the sector thanks to the team’s commitment to building authentic relationships with clients, based on a collaborative and tailored approach to meet their needs.

“Williamson’s experience will add an invaluable dimension to what we offer and position us well for continued growth.”

The new appointee added: “I’ve long admired what Sanderson and the Aon team achieve in insolvency and restructuring scenarios that are challenging for clients.

“This team stands out because of their genuine appreciation for client requirements and I am committed to building on that reputation of success and service.”
