’SRG has been relentless in its pursuit of specialisms bringing together leaders from across the market to flourish in a specialist environment,’ says chief executive officer

Specialist Risk Group (SRG) has today (6 September 2024) launched a new business division aimed at serving the global entertainment, media and sport industries.

A statement from the firm explained that Specialist Risk Entertainment Media and Sport (SR EMS) would operate across SRG’s current distribution channels – retail broking, wholesale broking, underwriting and international.

It added that the “division reflects the successful growth of SRG and the continuing development of its strategy to be the natural home of specialist individuals and businesses”.

In creating the business, SRG has also built a team of sector specialists to form the foundation of the new division.

SRG explained that clients from across the world would be able to access its new “highly skilled and experienced team” that could effectively serve the specialist needs of clients operating in these areas.

Warren Downey, SRG group chief executive, commented: “This is another example of our strategy in action, with the formation of a market leading entertainment, media and sport division made up of people with truly specialist capability.

“SRG has been relentless in its pursuit of specialisms, bringing together leaders from across the market to flourish in a specialist environment.

“We are of course always looking to speak with specialist individuals, teams and firms who are interested in joining a business committed to investing and developing their capabilities to maximum potential.”

Ongoing growth

The news of the new business unit’s creation came after SRG acquired Cheshire Insurance Brokers (CIB) in August with the aim of strengthening its retail capabilities.

The deal to purchase CIB marked SRG’s fifth acquisition of 2023.

Acquistions already completed this year included the purchase of TLO Risk Services (May 2023), The Medical Professional Liability Company (April 2023), Consort Insurance (March 2023) and Fleet and Commercial Insurance Brokers (January 2023).

As part of its growth strategy, SRG also launched Specialist Risk Europe – headquartered in Dublin, Ireland – in April.
