Insurance Times asked some industry leaders what they would wish for the industry and for themselves in 2007. Here's what they said...

Adrian Colosso, group chief executive, Heath Lambert Group

Neil Utley, chief executive, Equity Group

Eric Galbraith, chief executive, Biba

Andrew Paddick, director general, IIB

Bridget McIntyre, UK chief executive, Royal & SunAlliance

Eric Galbraith, chief executive, Biba
In 2007, I hope that:

  • The efforts made on contract certainty and increasing transparency around remuneration, convince the FSA that regulatory intervention is unnecessary

  • The industry establishes a better reputation within the general broking sector
  • Common sense prevails and there is a level playing field on the sale of travel insurance
  • Biba's conference at ExCeL London, 23-25 May 2007, is the most successful this year
  • Consumers backlash against poor quality and service from direct insurers
  • The Motor Insurance Database is up to date, fit for purpose and electronic certificates are permitted for motor insurance
  • Government decides that sale of personal lines insurance must have the same rules, wherever it is sold, not withstanding the Insurance Mediation Directive.

Finally, I hope that 2007 sees Scotland win the Rugby World Cup.

Andrew Paddick,director general, IIB
On the industry front, to successfully convince the Treasury that there needs to be more democracy at the FSA, by way of creating subsidiary boards (insurance, investments, mortgages & deposits).

Each board to have a suitable proportion of elected members from the relevant sector, with powers to approve and reject rules and regulations - subject to an ultimate main FSA board veto. This veto would need to be exercised with care and justifiable reasoning, if ever used.

And on a personal level I hope to be wading in the river Tay, the line stopping and then moving slowly away, followed by the unmistakable tug of a fresh run salmon.

Adrian Colosso, group chief executive, Heath Lambert Group
Top of my list is for Heath Lambert to continue building on its success; delivering the best advice and service to our clients; expanding our operations and expertise with new office openings and recruiting the very best people.

Also, seeing us beat off our competition to win as much new business as we can.

Other than that, seeing West Ham avoid relegation from the Premiership and then raising the FA Cup would certainly make my year.

Bridget McIntyre, UK chief executive, Royal & SunAlliance
2007 is the year when we prove that the R&SA model works and that all the hard work we have put in over the last few years has taken R&SA to a different place.

I also hope that we continue to attract business based on the whole of the R&SA.

I hope that we are recognised for our underwriting skills, our technical mastery, and the style in which we work.

That our people can reach new heights in their careers at R&SA and they have a real sense of satisfaction from being part of a company doing good things.

Finally, I wish health and happiness to all (and, of course, that I personally meet my challenging targets for 2007!)

Neil Utley, chief executive, Equity Group
I would like Keira Knightley and a Bentley.
