Tennis star campaign to highlight £15.99 multi-device policy

Tennis star John McEnroe is to head a TV advertising campaign for a gadget insurance policy aimed at the over-35s.

McEnroe’s famous cry “you cannot be serious” will be heard from today (24 December) when a 30-second advert for Family Gadget Insurance, a policy from Protect Your Bubble, airs.

The advert will be screened on more than 40 terrestrial and digital channels every day until early January.

It shows Squeak, a Protect Your Bubble cartoon character, playing a computer game with McEnroe’s fictional daughter. Squeak accidentally knocks McEnroe’s smart phone into his wife’s saucepan and McEnroe cries: “You cannot be serious!” The advert is also available to watch on YouTube.

The campaign will then highlight the £15.99 a month multi-device Family Gadget Insurance product. It covers four gadgets against accidental damage, theft and breakdown.

The Protect Your Bubble brand is owned by Assurant Intermediary. Its global head of direct distribution Stephen Ebbett said: “It was a real coup when John agreed to front our latest advertising campaign. John was a great sport throughout the film shoot.

“He continues to have a place in the hearts of the UK public and hopefully this advert will make families smile over the festive period, while at the same time promoting our new family gadget insurance product.

“This all-in-one policy is perfect for parents who may have purchased expensive tech devices for their children over Christmas. Family Gadget Insurance will hopefully make the problem of covering a house full of gadgets much less complicated and hassle-free.”

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
