Aegis London has made two promotions within its non-marine property team.

Gemma Rothon has been promoted to class underwriter – facilities, while Toby Sawyer has been promoted to class underwriter – open market. Both were previously underwriters.

Rothon and Sawyer start their new roles immediately and will report to head of property Alex Powell, who has recently been appointed to the board of Aegis Managing Agency.

Rothon has been a member of the Aegis London non-marine property team for 12 years and prior to that spent three years at Janson Green/Limit.

She has led the Aegis London property team’s Canadian account and chairs the syndicate’s Canadian strategy committee.

Sawyer has 10 years’ experience in the London insurance market. He began his career with Hardy Underwriting, before moving to Novae and then to Aegis London four years ago. He underwrites all aspects of the property portfolio with a particular focus on the global facultative account.

Aegis London active underwriter David Croom-Johnson said the broker’s non-marine property account had been highly successful and had achieved significant growth over the last few years.

“As a result, we have taken the decision to split the account to ensure we continue to deliver the best possible service to our brokers, cover holders and clients, and to create a platform for future development of the account,” he said. “Promoting Gemma and Toby is a key part of this change.”

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
