Benfield has appointed former Risk Frontiers director and founder Professor Russell Blong to its team of natural hazards experts in Australia.
Risk Frontiers is the industry-funded Natural Hazards Research Centre at Macquarie University in Sydney.
Benfield said Blong would concentrate on developing catastrophe cover and working with Benfield customers throughout the Asia-Pacific region, in an attempt to improve the understanding and management of natural hazards.
Blong's particular areas of specialisation include the development of earthquake, hail and flood loss models for the Australian market, building damage analysis for insurance purposes and integrated multi-criteria natural hazards risk assessment.
