JK Buckenham, the reinsurance broking platform of the Hyperion Insurance Group, has named Ian Smith as director, reinsurance.

With almost 30 years of experience, Smith joins the business from BMS International. During his career, he has also held similar roles at Aon, and AJ Gallagher.

Joanna Buckenham, managing director of JK Buckenham, said: “Ian's appointment is the first of a number of new hires as we look to strengthen our team to take the business forward over the coming months. He brings to our team a tremendous amount of experience across all types of reinsurance and across all classes of business. In particular, his extensive knowledge of South East Asia will play an essential role as we look to increase our business from the Far East.

“More importantly, Ian will become a lynchpin in our group as we look to unlock the synergies across all broking organisations, both here in the UK as well as via our international operations. Working more closely, we will not only provide our clients with solutions to meet their business needs but also ensure the personal service and level of expertise they have come to expect from both our companies.”

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.
