‘He brings a wealth of insurer and client relationships alongside his own deep industry knowledge,’ says director

BMS has appointed Charlie Emkes as director of commercial directors’ and officers’ insurance, a newly created role aimed at strengthening its UK retail D&O proposition.

The independent insurance and reinsurance broker said Emkes would take up the position from January 2026. He will be based in London and report to Tom Spraggs, director and head of financial institutions – UK retail.

BMS said the role was created to advance its existing commercial D&O strategy and to lead new business development.

Emkes, who joins from Lockton, will work closely with colleagues across BMS and David Roberts and Partners (DR&P), which was acquired by BMS in 2024.

’Strong alignment’

Spraggs said the appointment would support BMS’s growth ambitions in the commercial D&O market and help drive closer coordination across teams.

“Emkes brings a wealth of insurer and client relationships alongside his own deep industry knowledge, making him the ideal leader to drive innovation and growth in commercial D&O for BMS,” Spraggs said.

“He will foster stronger alignment across teams and unlock new opportunities for expansion.”
