‘This promotion recognises her expertise, leadership and the significant value she brings to the organisation,’ says chief executive

AIM-listed investment firm Helios Underwriting has promoted Jen Tan to the role of chief underwriting officer.

Tan joined the firm in October 2023 as head of portfolio strategy, responsible for portfolio construction and capital allocation across Helios’ Lloyd’s platform.

Helios said that in her new role, Tan would be responsible for “establishing Helios’ portfolio underwriting strategy, syndicate capacity allocation and ongoing portfolio management”.

It also confirmed that she would work closely with the board, executive management and syndicate partners to ensure “consistent execution of strategy and effective deployment of capital through the underwriting cycle”.

Tan’s over 15-year industry history includes nearly a decade as both director and partner at WTW and spells as head of pricing for marine, energy and specialty at Hiscox and latterly head of portfolio strategy at Artificial Labs.

Pivotal role

Louis Tucker, chief executive at Helios Underwriting, said: “Tan has played a pivotal role in building and managing our Lloyd’s portfolio in line with the board’s risk appetite and strategic objectives.

“With her extensive experience and rigorous, data-driven approach, she has demonstrated her ability to optimise portfolio performance while maintaining strong underwriting discipline. This promotion recognises her expertise, leadership and the significant value she brings to the organisation.”

The new appointee added: “Helios is uniquely positioned through its diversified portfolio of high-quality syndicates and portfolio-led approach to benefit from the exceptional market conditions at Lloyd’s.

“I have greatly enjoyed my time at Helios and am grateful to Tucker, the board and my colleagues for their continued support and trust. With a remarkable team and board, I look forward to building on our progress to date, continuing to deliver sustainable returns for our stakeholders.”
