‘This is about far more than access to funding. It’s about gaining access to expertise, strategic guidance, industry relationships and support from investors,’ says founder and co-chair

Insurtech UK has launched a new investor network designed to strengthen connections between investors and early-stage insurtech firms seeking funding to scale.

The initiative aims to bring together investors with experience of supporting high-growth businesses across the insurance sector.

Alongside the launch, Insurtech UK also published an Investment Guide for Insurtech Firms, providing advice on fundraising, investment processes and insights from businesses that have successfully secured backing.

Chief executive Melissa Collett said the network would help members access the capital needed to grow while connecting them with investors that have experience of scaling young businesses.

“Our ecosystem is full of ambitious, thriving companies with huge potential to grow sustainably and profitably, presenting a compelling proposition to investors,” she added.

Supporting growth

According to Insurtech UK, the UK has attracted the world’s second-largest share of insurtech investment behind the US since 2019, although investors have become increasingly selective as funding conditions have tightened.

The association said founders now need to demonstrate customer traction, a credible route to profitability and a clear understanding of where their businesses fit within the insurance value chain.

Gigasure founder and Insurtech UK co-chair Ernesto Suarez said: “[The network] creates a stronger bridge between ambitious founders and experienced investors who understand the unique opportunities and challenges of building businesses in insurance.

“This is about far more than access to funding. It’s about gaining access to expertise, strategic guidance, industry relationships and support from investors who can help accelerate growth,” he added.

Stephen Brittain, co-founder of founding network member Insurtech Gateway, added that while insurance remained a significant opportunity for technology entrepreneurs, founders also needed access to industry expertise, partners and customers to build scalable businesses.

The Investor Network’s founding members also include venture capital firm Eos Ventures, with additional investors invited to join the initiative as it expands.
