’Her experience leading international portfolios and driving innovation will be hugely valuable,’ says managing director
Markel Insurance has appointed Doan Nguyen as managing director of its speciality division in London.

Nguyen will oversee the strategic direction of the insurer’s London speciality business, supporting growth across trade credit, political risk and surety (TCPRS), equine and livestock, international casualty, structured portfolio solutions and political violence and terror.
She succeeds Tom Hillier, who was appointed chief underwriting officer at Markel International earlier this year, and will report to Rohan Davies, managing director of London market at Markel International.
Davies said: “Her appointment is an important moment for our specialty business and for the continued development of our London market platform.
“Her experience leading international portfolios and driving innovation will be hugely valuable as we continue to develop specialist solutions, strengthen broker relationships and grow with discipline.”
Experience
Nguyen brings more than 18 years’ experience across claims, underwriting, strategy, innovation and portfolio leadership.

She joins from Allianz Commercial, where she most recently worked as global head of portfolio solutions.
Nguyen is based in London in her new role and takes up the position with immediate effect.
Davies said: “Specialty has been a major contributor to our recent progress and Nguyen brings the underwriting expertise, strategic experience and leadership capability to build on that momentum.”
The appointment forms part of the ongoing evolution of Markel’s London market leadership team, following the recent appointments of Dan McCarthy as managing director of marine, energy and construction and Bhavik Desai as managing director of professional and financial risks (PFR) and cyber.

With a background in local journalism, she has previously worked as a freelance reporter covering community stories and gaining valuable on the ground experience.View full Profile
