I read so much in the press about the "compensation culture" we are currently experiencing, with companies like Claims Direct standing outside factories touting for business. And thousands of businesses are trading illegally because they can't obtain employers' liability (EL) cover, due partly to the fact insurers are having to pay out more and more money in compensation.

Why don't insurers take the upper hand and refuse to renew EL insurance for people like Claims Direct and see if they continue trading?
