AIG has put its chief administrative officer Michael Castelli on leave as the fallout from the Spitzer investigation continues.

AIG put Castelli on leave Friday, a spokesman for the company confirmed. He declined to comment on why he was asked to leave the company.

Castelli was named as a senior vice president and chief administrative officer of AIG in January.

Castelli played a significant role helping the insurer comply with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, which was drawn up to stop corporate fraud and accounting scandals in the wake of the collapse of Enron and WorldCom, according to an AIG statement in January.

He is the latest high ranking company executive to be put on leave by the company.

Earlier this year, chief financial officer Howard Smith and two other AIG executives, Michael Murphy and Christian Milton, were placed on leave. The three were subsequently fired by AIG for invoking their constitutional right against self-incrimination by not testifying to investigators.
