DeNovosystems, a software developer based in Lymington, Hampshire, has launched a web-enabled administration system targeted at small to medium-sized brokers and scheme agencies.

DeNovosystems managing director John Dodd said he had developed the system, Archie, to meet the software needs of community-based brokers, who had general insurance businesses, but who also specialised in specific trades.

Archie promises full-cycle administration using Microsoft Access-based programmes that are compatible with other Microsoft Office products.

Dodd said this meant it was cheap for brokers and would not require investment in expensive new computer systems. He said they would also be familiar and comfortable with the way the system worked.

Each system is a standalone entity, installed for each broking business. This allowed brokers to keep full, onsite control of their client information and databases, he said. Several other systems required brokers to keep their records with central databases that were controlled by an application service provider (ASP), added Dodd.

"The trouble with that, is the broker is by definition letting go of his data... and there are an awful lot of brokers who are nervous of that as a proposition," he said.

The system, which cost £250,000 to develop over two years, can stand alone as a back office administration system or work with a broker website. It includes detailed underwriters' risk criteria, which allows brokers to control a policy from quotation stage through to renewal.
