Plans to reform the extended warranty market have been delayed, the government said today.

Proposals to offer more clarity to consumers considering buying an extended warranty were published by the Department for Trade and Industry (DTI) in July 2004.

The government said there had been concerns raised by several businesses about the speed of change in the run up to Chirstmas.

In response it has delayed the introduction of legislation until after Christmas.

In the meantime the DTI said it would consult businesses on further technical changes to the regulations.
