Lloyd's has announced that Ian Faragher has been appointed chief operating officer of its new Chinese onshore reinsurance operation in Shanghai, Lloyd's Reinsurance Company.
Faragher was previously responsible for the Liberty Mutual and Chubb operations in China.
The new company will give Chinese insurers access to the Lloyd's market, enabling its underwriters to support the development of the local market and the Chinese economy.
Director of Worldwide Markets, Julian James, said: "[His appointment] will be crucial as we continue our work with the Chinese authorities to get the new operation up and running in the autumn."
