For the second day of advent, Graeme Trudgill, chief executive at Biba, discusses the trade body’s biggest achievements and regulation

Every day for the festive period continuing until Christmas Eve, Insurance Times speaks to a selection of industry personalities about what they’d like to find under the tree.

1. What was your insurance industry highlight of 2024?

Getting the McGill Reinsurance facility launched was a highlight as it helped create a more affordable insurance solution for medium and high-rise residential buildings with fire safety issues.

A personal highlight was opening the Biba Conference as chief executive for the first time and the wonderful reception I received.

2. What is your Christmas message for your insurance colleagues?

I feel extremely positive about the future of our sector. We really can make a difference for the people who need us the most. So engage with Biba and we can make a difference.

3. What do you hope to find under the industry’s Christmas tree for 2025?

Improved regulator architecture, specifically speeding up authorisations, and removing unnecessary rules now that we have the Consumer Duty.

I would also like to see streamlined reporting requirements and the removal of the need for fair value assessments from brokers (insurers already do them). I also want a reduction in the scope of the Consumer Duty and some chocolate!

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
