Insurance Times rounds up the biggest moves and promotions from 2 to 6 June 2025
Starting off the week, Arch Insurance International appointed Allianz veteran Tim Chapman as its new head of construction.
Chapman, who has taken up the role with immediate effect, will be responsible for developing Arch’s construction portfolio and building out the company’s open-market offering and brings over 25 years of experience in underwriting to the new role.
Then, Aon appointed former Marsh international claims solutions leader Chris Knutson as its global broking centre’s new chief claims officer.
In his new role, Knutson will lead over 100 claims professionals dedicated to the London market. He will report to Tracy-Lee Kus, head of GBC, and also join the global claims leadership team led by Mona Barnes.
Later in the week, new Lloyd’s chief executive Patrick Tiernan outlined the shape of his new executive team, with Rachel Turk appointed chief of market performance and Caroline Sandeman-Allen appointed as chief of market oversight.
Jonathan May also joined the executive team as chief executive at the Lloyd’s Insurance Company, which is the market’s wholly owned subsidiary that facilitates underwriting in the European Economic Area.
On the same day, Travelers Europe appointed Andy Brown as its new chief underwriting officer for business insurance. Brown joined from Chubb, where he spent the previous 10 years holding several senior leadership positions.
The appointment followed the retirement of previous chief underwriting officer for business insurance, Heather Batchelor, who had been employed by Travelers Europe for the previous 30 years.
Later in the week, Allianz UK named Akhil Lalwani as its new chief data officer (CDO) after creating a new centralised data function.
In his new role, Lalwani will be responsible for shaping the strategic direction of the data centre. He will also oversee the data strategy, privacy and governance, data architecture, data engineering and business intelligence teams and report to Fergal Coburn, chief operating officer at Allianz UK.
The ABI also made moves this week, deciding to appoint Chris Bose as its new director of general insurance and international.
Bose, who will take up his new role on 11 August 2025, joins from Nationwide Building Society. He he has worked there for the past 10 years, most recently as head of policy and public affairs.
Specialist insurer Markel made a strategic move too, deciding to appoint Mike Petchey as its new head of schemes.
In his new role, Petchey will lead the schemes team and be responsible for enhancing the insurer’s approach to schemes through collaborative and sector-specific propositions.
He will report to Jo Sykes, Markel’s UK broker director.
