Ex-NU staff who siphoned claims to have assets snatched

Devon & Cornwall Police have applied for confiscation proceedings against Linda Drake, 45, a former claims handler at Norwich Union (now Aviva) in Pynes Hill, Exeter, and her builder husband Alan, 41, the Express & echo reports.

Sentencing was adjourned at Exeter Crown Court last week after the defendants denied the sums involved, alleged to be around £207,000.

Linda Drake and, Nicola Pughe, 43, also known by the surname Curry, used their roles at the firm to fraudulently make payments into various bank accounts.

Assets in the US

Prosecutor Jonathan Barnes told the latest court hearing: “There is still the intention to pursue confiscation. This will be held on a date to be set and will include the Drakes’ assets in the USA.”

Claire Williams, 24, who is Linda Drake’s daughter, was given six months in prison, suspended for two years, and 100 hours of unpaid work, on Thursday after admitting an offence of concealing criminal property.

Linda Drake has admitted conspiracy to defraud and one charge of fraud involving abuse by position. Her husband has admitted a charge of conspiracy to defraud and one of concealing criminal property.

Pughe has admitted two offences of conspiracy to defraud, which the court heard totals around £24,000.

The three have been bailed to be sentenced on a date to be set.
