Hsbc has launched a collection of private healthcare products underwritten by CGU Insurance, called Health Cash, Personal Accident and Dental Accident & Emergency.

The costs start at 17p a day and allow customers to recover a proportion of the costs of visits to the dentist, opticians, medical specialists and hospitals.

The Health Cash plan offers four levels of cover so customers can be flexible in the amount of cover they wish to buy while a 24-hour medical helpline is available, staffed by qualified nurses.

Personal Accident starts at 21p a day and benefits include £25 a day hospital cash, to payments of up to £100,000 for permanent disability.

Finally the Dental Accident & Emergency plan provides cover for urgent dental treatment, dental injury and in-patient benefits including up to £10,000 for emergency treatment.

"The plans do not discriminate against customers in so-called "high-risk" occupations who ordinarily would have to pay higher premiums," said HSBC manager of personal financial services Nathan Moss. "As premiums are not based on age, the plans are equally suited to older customers who have concerns about their long-term finances.

Customers cannot buy the product over the internet.
