For the 17th day of advent, Biba chief executive Graeme Trudgill speaks about his 2023 highlights after becoming the new top boss of the association during the year

Every day for the festive period continuing until Christmas Eve, Insurance Times speaks to a selection of industry personalities about what they’d like to find under the tree for 2024.

Graeme Trudgill, executive director, BIBA

Graeme Trudgill

What was your insurance industry highlight of 2023?

The Biba conference was the most enjoyable highlight, being appointed as chief executive was a personal highlight, but I think resolving the Michael Gove cladded buildings and fair value issue was our most important highlight of the year.

What is your Christmas message for your insurance colleagues?

Thank you to everyone involved in Biba, including the hundreds of members who volunteer their time on our committees, advisory boards and regions. Plus, all the incredible stakeholders we work with through insurers and the wider sector. We are all better off for your involvement.

What do you hope to find under the industry’s Christmas tree for 2024?

We’d like some new objective, independent metrics from the insurance minister on how any proposed new FCA regulations will be measured and scrutinised to ensure growth and competitiveness.

Plus the new Biba manifesto, as it’s shortly heading off to the printers and needs to be ready for the launch on 10 January.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
