For the 18th day of advent, Insurtech UK chief executive Melissa Collett reveals her wish for insurtechs in 2024

Every day for the festive period continuing until Christmas Eve, Insurance Times speaks to a selection of industry personalities about what they’d like to find under the tree for 2024.

What was your insurance industry highlight of 2023?

It’s been a whirlwind becoming chief executive of Insurtech UK in September 2023. I started in the role the same week as the launch of the ground-breaking The United Kingdom: the Nexus of Insurtech report. It really highlights the potential of the UK insurtech market, which is currently worth £20bn to the UK economy.

Fun fact – Did you know that the UK has more insurtechs per capita than anywhere else in the world? And Silicon Roundabout has more insurtechs than the rest of Europe combined and is second only to Silicon Valley?

Now Santa, can you bring us more investors please?

What is your Christmas message for your insurance colleagues?

Insurance has a great community feel to it and this especially so at Christmas time. My diary is stacked right up until Christmas Eve so I hope I get to see as many friends and contacts before then. In the meantime, this is the time of year I share the fact that I recorded a Christmas song a few years ago with my band.

So spread the festive cheer and download my band’s yuletide song, Christmas Time Is Here!

What do you hope to find under the industry’s Christmas tree for 2024?

I hope 2024 brings more opportunities for insurtechs to grow, especially more series B plus investors. We’re also focusing on hosting more of our popular member pitching events next year.
