The cuts are likely to impact positions in call centres the hardest, as AI increasingly replaces manual processes

Allianz is in talks to reduce its workforce by between 1,500 and 1,800 employees in the travel insurance division over the coming 12-18 months.

Call centre positions are the most likely to be axed as the company implements AI across its operations.

At Allianz Partners, there are currently 14,000 of a total 22,600 worldwide employees that work on customer queries and claims over the phone.

In a statement addressing the proposed reduction, Allianz Partners told Insurance Times: ”As technology revolutionises our industry, we are assessing how to strengthen our position as the industry leader by leveraging AI and actively evaluating how these changes will impact all of us in the years ahead.

”We anticipate these changes will create opportunities for learning, growth and new roles within the company, but may also impact positions which are heavily reliant on manual processes today.

”Decisions impacting our employees are always taken with great care and consideration and in close and confidential consultation with our employee representatives.”

Previous job cuts

The cuts follow the earlier announcement on 18 June 2025 that Allianz was cutting 650 roles from its UK general insurance arm by the end of this year.

This included reductions to staff across Allianz UK’s personal lines, commercial, specialty and central functions.

The decision was made following what the insurer described as “shifting preferences towards digital, self-service customer support” and ongoing changes in market dynamics.

Commenting on the decision in June, a spokesperson for the insurer said: “We are investing in a multiyear transformation programme to become a simpler, digital-led, leaner business.

”Sadly, we have informed colleagues of the difficult decision to reduce the size of Allianz UK’s general insurance workforce by the end of 2025.”
