Italian authorities have found the body of Hiscox chairman Jonathan Bloomer after a luxury yacht sank off the coast of Sicily.

Bloomer and his wife Judy were reported to be among six people missing after the Bayesian sank in a storm on Monday (19 August 2024).

Divers have been attempting reach the vessel, which is 50 metres underwater, for the last three days.

Five of the bodies have now been recovered from the shipwreck.

Sky News report that the Italian coastguard said that Bloomer and his wife Judy were among them.

Other bodies recovered include that of British technology entrepreneur Mike Lynch, US lawyer Christopher Morvillo and his wife Neda Morvillo, who is a jewellery designer.

Mr Lynch’s 18-year-old daughter Hannah remains missing.

Investigation

The UK’s Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) confirmed it was investigating the sinking.

Hiscox appointed Bloomer, who was also the chairman at Morgan Stanley, back in 2023.

In a statement on Tuesday (20 August 2024), when Bloomer had been reported among those missing, Hiscox chief executive Aki Hussain said: “We are deeply shocked and saddened by this tragic event,”

“Our thoughts are with all those affected, in particular our chair, Jonathan Bloomer, and his wife Judy.”
