Insurance Times rounds up the top five stories making headlines across the market from 12 to 16 January 2026
Among the most read stories this week was the launch of a new broker platform by mid-market private equity firm Inflexion, following its acquisition of Essex-based Ascend Broking Group.

Inflexion said Ascend was the first of several broker acquisitions planned through the new platform, which aims to build between four and six regional broking hubs across the UK.
Meanwhile, PIB Group also attracted strong reader interest after the consolidator promoted Chris Jackson to chief executive of its underwriting and distribution business.
Jackson, who co-founded financial lines MGA Acquinex before its acquisition by PIB Group in 2021, succeeds Charlie Burgess following his resignation.
People moves continued to dominate engagement this week, with motor and mobility insurer Aioi Nissay Dowa Insurance Europe unveiling a major recruitment drive in Newcastle as part of its plans to bring fleet claims handling in-house.
The insurer said the expansion of its Newcastle Claims Centre of Excellence would see claims volumes double by the end of 2026, alongside a headcount increase of around 30%.
Another senior appointment also proved popular with readers, with Axa UK Commercial confirming the hire of Zurich UK chief underwriting officer Caroline Dunn for the same role.
Dunn, who is set to join Axa on 1 July 2026, brought experience from Zurich and Lloyd’s of London and was appointed following the retirement of David Ovenden.
Rounding off the week, Admiral announced a major succession move at group board level, with long-serving finance director Geraint Jones confirming plans to retire.
Rachel Lewis, chief financial officer for Admiral’s UK insurance business, was named as his successor and will step into the group CFO role on 1 July 2026.
